Portable Measurement Device

You have special materials that you need for your simulation? We offer lidar BRDF measurements of materials in our lab or at your proving ground using our portable Reflectivity Measurement Device.
It consists of two rotating arms with separate laser and detector. For BRDF collection, the intensity of the reflected light is measured under a specific angle of reflection. Both arms operate independently and are driven with high precision for the angles of incidence and reflection.

Different Reflection Characteristics

Different materials have different reflection characteristics. They range from diffuse over specular to retroreflective. But it is not always either, or. Characteristics change depending on the angle. Even a diffuse material can have strong specular tendencies in shallow angles. Here are two examples of a diffuse and specular material.

Wavelength dependent

How does your material behave in the infrared spectrum? The visible color is not always an indicator for the reflectivity in infrared. In the image you can see 5 different material samples. The plates in the middle have 10 %, 50 % and 80 % calibrated reflectivity in the infrared spectrum. The black felt in the background reflects much more infrared light than the also black felt on the right.

Custom Measurement Profile

We can set fully custom measurement profiles. To optimize measurement time, only combinations of sender and receiver angles are measured that are relevant for your use-case. Both sender and receiver arms can be independently moved between -86° and 86°.
